Figure 7E.  Relative warps of a thin plate spline comparison of average landmarks of 27 male and 27 female wings of wild type Drosophila virilis.  Unlike D. melanogaster and D. immigrans the major difference between the male and female D. virilis wings is seen to be a small flextion of the proximal-distal axis of the wing blade in the male compared to the female.  This type of difference was noted as a minor component in a principal components analysis of D. melanogaster sex dimorphism.   A non-motion gif of Fig. 7E is available.
